I am irresistibly drawn to Istanbul. No matter what my condition, any stirrings quiet when I sit at a rooftop hotel restaurant in Sultanahmet, savoring a breakfast of Simit, white cheese, Gemlik olives, with a glass of cherry juice and free-flowing Turkish tea. I love the architecture, the smells, the colors, the food, and the sounds. Somehow I am unable to satisfy my need to experience more of this extraordinary city.
Alphonse de Lamartine famously proclaimed, "If one had but a single glance to give the world, one should gaze on Istanbul." I will not be able to do justice to de Lamartine with a very small sampling of pictures, but here are some photos I have taken.
